TRACER

01 September 2026

The Horizon Europe project TRACER (Transparent Reporting and Accountability for carbon and non-CO2 Emissions with Real-time data streams and advanced Modelling) is coordinated by The James Hutton Institute. The project aims to develop and validate a harmonised, near real-time system for monitoring, reporting and verifying greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture.

TRACER develops a platform that combines field sensors, satellite Earth Observation data, modelling and farm data. The system is tested in nine pilot sites covering different soil and climate conditions and farming systems, including organic farming, and will be demonstrated in five existing Living Labs with farmers, advisors, policymakers and industry. The Agricultural University of Athens leads the project's work on impact assessment, capacity building and upscaling, and runs the Greek pilot on agroecological cropping systems for reducing nitrous oxide emissions.
